Web Desk: Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10% of her match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct during her team’s Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday.
The ICC said Feroza committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of its Code of Conduct, which covers dissent toward an umpire’s decision during an international match.
The incident occurred during the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings after Feroza was given out leg before wicket.
The Pakistan batter showed her disappointment by indicating to the umpire that she had made contact with the ball with her bat before it struck her pads. Her reaction was deemed to constitute dissent under the ICC’s regulations.
Feroza admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, the matter did not require a formal disciplinary hearing.
The ICC also added one demerit point to Feroza’s disciplinary record, taking her total to two within the current 24-month period.
It was her second offence during that timeframe. She received her previous demerit point for an incident during Pakistan’s Women’s T20 World Cup league match against Australia on June 23.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Rabab Ahsan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Shivani Mishra and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir.
Level 1 breaches under the ICC Code of Conduct can result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Under the ICC’s disciplinary system, four or more demerit points accumulated within a 24-month period are converted into suspension points, which can lead to a ban.
Two suspension points result in a ban covering one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, depending on which format the player is scheduled to play first.
Demerit points remain on a player’s disciplinary record for 24 months from the date they are imposed before being removed.
