Web Desk: Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has acknowledged that his team failed to deliver across batting, bowling and fielding in the previous Test, contributing to a disappointing result.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Birmingham, Babar said Pakistan would inevitably face criticism if the team failed to perform and produce results.
“If we do not play well and fail to deliver results, these discussions are bound to take place,” Babar said.
Pakistan had selected what it considered its strongest combination for the Lord’s Test after assessing the playing conditions, but the team was unable to produce the desired outcome.
Babar said he did not expect any major difficulty in finalising the playing XI for the upcoming match.
The captain also urged Pakistan’s younger players to view the series as an opportunity to establish themselves at international level.
“This is a valuable opportunity for the younger players to demonstrate their abilities and make their mark,” he said, adding that players must consistently perform regardless of the format.
Babar also pointed to his previous record at Edgbaston as a source of confidence ahead of the Test.
The Birmingham venue has produced positive memories for the Pakistan captain in the past, and he said the team would aim to translate that familiarity into a strong performance.
Pakistan will therefore look to improve in all three departments as they seek a better result in the upcoming Test.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has opened an inquiry into media reports concerning the discipline and conduct of members of the national squad currently on tour in England.
The development comes as Pakistan prepares for another Test, adding further scrutiny to the team’s performance and conduct during the tour.
