High flood hits Head Panjnad as floodwater inflows increase to near 400,000 cusecs

Web desk: Floodwaters from Punjab have reached Head Panjnad, where a high-level flood is being recorded. At the barrage, the inflow has crossed 350,000 cusecs, while the total inflow is close to 400,000 cusecs.

Meanwhile, low-level floods continue at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages. The inflow at Guddu has been recorded at 366,000 cusecs and at Sukkur at 230,000 cusecs.

Nankana Sahib

The water level in the River Ravi has risen dangerously. At Head Balloki, the inflow and outflow have been reported at 157,065 cusecs.

Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Akhtar Rao visited the flood-affected areas and, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, distributed food and sweets among the displaced families.

Trimmu

At Trimmu Barrage, water levels are rising rapidly. The flow has reached 471,863 cusecs, with an alarming increase of 70,000 cusecs within just one hour.

Vehari

In the River Sutlej, pressure is also mounting. The inflow at Head Ganda Singh Wala has crossed 350,000 cusecs, at Head Sulemanki it is 132,000 cusecs, and at Head Islam 103,000 cusecs.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, more than 90 villages and nearly 73,000 people have been affected in the district.

About 68,500 people have been shifted to safer locations, while around 50,000 livestock have also been rescued.

Crops spread over almost 50,000 acres have been damaged. The district administration has set up 17 flood relief camps where victims are being provided with 7,000 meals and 500 ration bags daily.

In addition, 11 medical camps and 19 “clinics-on-wheels” are active, where more than 4,000 patients have been treated, and 542 people have been given care at field hospitals.

For livestock, 12 vaccination camps have been established, treating more than 45,000 animals.

NDMA report

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the death toll from monsoon rains and flooding across the country has reached 907.

The latest figures show that in the last 24 hours, two people drowned in Punjab’s Toba Tek Singh.

Since June 26, 233 deaths have been reported in Punjab, 502 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 58 in Sindh, 41 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 38 in Azad Kashmir, and nine in Islamabad. The total number of injured stands at 1,044.

Nationwide, 7,848 houses have been damaged, of which 1,945 were completely destroyed and 5,903 were partially affected. In addition, 6,180 livestock have perished in the floods so far.

Pakistan floods damage over 100 health centres

Pakistan’s healthcare system has faced severe setbacks as recent floods caused widespread damage to medical facilities, according to media sources.

A report submitted to the federal government revealed that more than 100 health centres across the country were affected.

In total, 104 facilities sustained damage, with seven completely destroyed and 97 partially damaged.

The most affected regions were Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three centres were wiped out, while Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan each lost two facilities.

According to the report, 25 health units in Sindh, 12 in Punjab, and seven in Gilgit-Baltistan were impacted.

Partially damaged facilities restored to ensure basic services

Authorities confirmed that all 97 partially damaged centres have been restored to keep basic medical services running.

However, areas where facilities were completely destroyed continue to face serious difficulties.

Officials acknowledged that reconstruction of the destroyed health infrastructure remains a major challenge, especially in regions already struggling with limited access to healthcare.
