Pakistan’s female umpire Salima Imtiaz is set to achieve another milestone on Tuesday as she will serve as a field umpire in the women’s cricket final at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Salima Imtiaz, who hails from Karachi, will officiate the final between top-seeded and defending champions India and second-seeded Sri Lanka. The match will be played at the Makurogi Athletic Park Ground in Nagoya.
The mother of former women’s international cricketer Kainat Imtiaz, Salima Imtiaz is the first Pakistani woman to officiate as an umpire in international women’s cricket. She has so far served as a field umpire in 53 Women’s T20 Internationals and as a TV umpire in 15 matches.
She has also officiated as a field umpire in six Women’s One-Day Internationals and as a TV umpire in three. Salima Imtiaz has additionally officiated in several ICC matches, including the final of the Women’s Asia Cup.
Salima Imtiaz has also performed umpiring duties at the ICC Women’s World Cup.
Her selection to the Asian Games final further adds a feather to her cap and reflects her continued presence in major women’s cricket events. Her experience across T20 and One-Day Internationals has seen her officiate at various high-profile fixtures.
