Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed deeper business cooperation with China as a leading Chinese technology firm announced plans to establish a digital economy headquarters in Pakistan, aiming to support the country’s economic transformation and expand opportunities for local businesses.

Speaking during a meeting in Islamabad with a senior Chinese business delegation led by Qian Xiaojun, Sharif said Pakistan and China continued to strengthen their long-standing strategic partnership through growing business-to-business collaboration.

Sharif said the relationship between Islamabad and Beijing had evolved into a broad-based economic and strategic partnership, adding that stronger private-sector engagement was opening new avenues for investment and industrial cooperation.

He also praised China’s economic progress under the leadership of Xi Jinping and said he looked forward to visiting China later this month to further advance bilateral ties.

Moreover, the prime minister welcomed the decision by IBI Beijing United Technology to establish its Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters, describing the move as a positive step toward boosting digital connectivity, investment facilitation and industrial integration between the two countries.

During the meeting, Qian said the company was confident about Pakistan’s economic potential and intended to contribute to building the country’s digital infrastructure.

He added that the planned digital economy headquarters would serve as a central platform for supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation while creating new commercial opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Furthermore, Qian said the initiative would help Pakistani businesses gain greater access to China’s vast market by strengthening technological and trade linkages between the two countries.

Pakistan and China maintain close economic ties through multiple infrastructure, energy and development projects, many of them linked to broader regional connectivity and trade initiatives.
