The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to abolish the mandatory MDCAT requirement for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical and dental institutions.

The PMDC issued a public notice stating that the requirement to pass the MDCAT for admission to foreign medical and dental institutions has been abolished.

The PMDC made the decision during a meeting held on September 14. Following the council’s decision, Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical and dental institutions have been exempted from the MDCAT requirement.

According to the notice issued by the council, it will no longer be mandatory for Pakistanis seeking admission to foreign medical and dental institutions to pass the MDCAT.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has received a letter from Health Minister Mustafa Kamal regarding alleged irregularities in the MDCAT examination in Sindh.

According to sources, the PMDC has decided to seek a legal opinion regarding its authority over the MDCAT. The PMDC’s legal department has been asked to provide an opinion on its powers concerning the MDCAT.

The PMDC will act on the health minister’s instructions in accordance with the legal opinion. The council’s powers regarding the MDCAT paper are limited, and the PMDC is not directly responsible for any process related to the MDCAT. The relevant medical university is responsible for conducting the investigation, while the PMDC will cooperate in the investigation into the MDCAT in Sindh.

According to PMDC sources, universities were responsible for the preparation, printing, storage, transportation and conduct of the MDCAT paper. The PMDC has so far not received any direct complaint regarding the MDCAT.

It is pertinent to mention that Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal took strict notice last week of complaints regarding alleged irregularities in the conduct and results of the MDCAT in Sindh and directed the PMDC to submit a report within 15 days.
