Web Desk: The Peshawar Motorway (M-1) will remain closed to all traffic from 11 p.m. on September 23, 2026, until further notice, according to a traffic advisory.
Travelers from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other districts have been advised to avoid the M-1 and postpone non-essential journeys.
Motorists traveling from Islamabad and Rawalpindi toward Peshawar can use the old Grand Trunk Road (N-5), which provides a parallel road connection through Taxila, Hasan Abdal, Attock and Nowshera before reaching Peshawar.
Travelers should expect the N-5 to experience increased traffic because of the M-1 closure and should allow additional time for their journeys.
For motorists approaching from Lahore and other areas, the M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway will remain open to all traffic. Travelers can use the M-2 to reach Islamabad and then continue toward Peshawar via available routes, subject to traffic conditions and police directions.
Motorists are advised to follow any temporary diversions issued by the Islamabad and motorway police and check the latest traffic situation before setting out.
The advisory also urges passengers to plan their journeys in advance and comply with instructions issued by traffic authorities.
