National cricketer Saud Shakeel has urged the senior players in the squad to step up and deliver exemplary performances.
Speaking to journalists at the Islamabad Club, Saud Shakeel highlighted the significance of the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. He noted that with new players being given opportunities, the responsibility of the senior cricketers has increased, and they must set an example through their own performances.
He stated that the team’s new composition offers young players a chance to come to the fore; therefore, it is essential for every player to fulfill their role effectively—a task that places a greater burden of responsibility on the seniors.
He emphasized that performing well during Test matches on home soil is particularly crucial. Describing the changing weather in Rawalpindi as favorable for cricket, he added that regardless of whether the first Test takes place in Lahore or Rawalpindi, the team is well-acquainted with its own home grounds and conditions.
Saud Shakeel also described this series as a vital opportunity for the younger players, noting that playing in front of a home crowd will allow them to showcase their talent. He acknowledged that the team has lacked consistency in recent Test series, making it incumbent upon the senior batters to step up, play better, and contribute to the team’s success.
Regarding his own form, Saud Shakeel shared that he regained his confidence and rhythm while batting during the series against England. He maintained this good form in the President’s Trophy following his return from that tour, and he now aims to carry that same level of performance into international cricket. Series Schedule
It should be noted that the first match of the two-Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will begin on November 9 and run until November 13 in Rawalpindi, while the second Test will be played from November 17 to 21 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
