Indian Media’s Pakistan Obsession Exposed Again

According to the report, “Pakistan” ranks sixth among the most frequently spoken words in India, ahead of both “India” and “Gandhi.”

Contrary to claims by Indian media of ignoring Pakistan, a report by an Indian institution has presented data that paints a different picture from this narrative.

According to the report, “Pakistan” ranks sixth among the most frequently spoken words in India, ahead of both “India” and “Gandhi.”

The report states that Pakistan accounted for 30.8 percent of international coverage in the Indian media, which is more than twice the share of the United States and more than five times that of China.

This trend is also clearly visible online. During the peak days of February 2019, 13.74 million (13.74 million) messages from conversations originating in India were recorded on Twitter within just two days, an average of 6.87 million messages per day, and all of them were about Pakistan.

This trend is not limited to television. Several of Bollywood’s biggest and most successful films have also been made on the subject of Pakistan, including Dhurandhar 1 and 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Gadar 1 and 2, and films from the Tiger series, while the list is long.

Thus, if viewed in this context, neither anything other than Pakistan sells in the Indian media, nor do films succeed without using Pakistan’s name.

Allegations have also continued to emerge regarding Hindutva politics in India and the Modi government’s promotion of an anti-Pakistan and anti-Muslim narrative, with extremist Hindu elements reportedly playing an active role. According to critics, this trend has fueled hatred in so-called secular India and also increased concerns regarding abuses against minorities.
