England’s 25-year-old fast bowler John Turner has announced his sudden retirement from professional cricket.
According to details, Turner represented England in two One-Day Internationals and two T20 Internationals in 2024. He has been unable to play in any match since June last year due to a stress fracture in his back.
Speaking about his decision, Turner said that persistent injuries, particularly the stress fracture that kept him out of action for more than a year, forced him to seriously consider his future both as a cricketer and outside the sport.
He said that playing professional and international cricket had always been his dream, and representing Hampshire and England was the fulfilment of his childhood dreams. However, he decided to retire from cricket, describing it as one of the most difficult decisions of his life.
In his retirement message, Turner thanked Hampshire Cricket Club, coaches, teammates, staff and fans, saying that the five years he spent with the club as a professional cricketer were the best years of his life.
He said he received immense trust, support and encouragement at every stage, which helped him fulfil his dreams, and that he would always remember their support.
It is worth mentioning that John Turner made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 2021.
