Multan tragedy as 15-year-old apprentice run over by employer

Web Desk: A 15-year-old orphan sent to Multan to learn electrical work was killed after a contractor allegedly drove his car into the teenager following a workplace dispute, police said.

The victim, Waseem Abbas, had reportedly spent only about a week working for contractor Tauqeer Nazir when a dispute arose between the two. Police said the disagreement may have been linked to Abbas’s desire to leave the job.

The incident has triggered public outrage, with calls for severe punishment for those responsible for the teenager’s death.

According to police, Tauqeer initially chased Waseem on foot in the DHA or Royal Orchard area of Multan before getting into his car and pursuing the teenager.

Police said Tauqeer then allegedly drove the vehicle into waseem, throwing him against a gate and causing fatal head injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain under investigation.

Officers arrested Tauqeer at the scene and also detained Amjad Ali, who was travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said.

Authorities registered a murder case against the suspects and seized the car for further investigation.

Police have not yet disclosed further details about the evidence collected or the specific charges against each suspect.

Waseem had been sent from an orphanage to learn electrical work and build skills for his future. His father had died years earlier, leaving the teenager without parental support.

His death has intensified concerns over the safety and protection of young apprentices, particularly those working away from the institutions or families responsible for their care.

Meanwhile, the investigation remains underway as police work to establish the sequence of events that led to the teenager’s death and determine responsibility for the alleged attack.
