CPPA submits request for an increase in per-unit electricity tariff under August monthly fuel adjustment
Islamabad: Electricity prices across the country may increase following successive hikes in petroleum product prices.
Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, may face higher electricity bills under the August monthly fuel adjustment, for which a formal request has been submitted.
If the request is approved, electricity prices could increase by Rs1.73 per unit.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the application filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on September 29.
The proposed increase is also expected to apply to K-Electric consumers.
According to CPPA, 14.464 billion units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) in August, while the cost of electricity supplied to DISCOs stood at Rs8.82 per unit.
In August, hydropower accounted for 37.84% of total electricity generation. According to CPPA, local coal contributed 10.88%, while imported coal accounted for 15.59%.
Data showed that furnace oil contributed 2.15% of electricity generation in August, while local gas accounted for 7.04% and imported LNG for 8.48%.
According to CPPA, the cost of electricity generation from furnace oil stood at Rs45.25 per unit, while generation through imported LNG cost Rs45.92 per unit.
