Web Desk: A powerful explosion ripped through the area outside the main gate of the Miryan police station in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, martyring two civilians and wounding at least 15 others, according to preliminary police reports.
Police sources said the blast occurred when explosives strapped to a motorcycle detonated near the entrance of the facility, located in the district Bannu.
Authorities said sandbag barriers and other fortifications installed around the police station prevented casualties among officers on duty. However, civilians in the vicinity sustained the impact of the explosion.
Emergency teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Police officials said they were collecting forensic evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to determine responsibility.
Security officials blamed terrorist elements for the attack, saying such groups often shift tactics when facing intensified pressure from law enforcement operations.
“These outfits resort to soft targets when they cannot directly confront security forces,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly.
Government officials condemned the attack and said targeting unarmed civilians demonstrates the absence of any legitimate political or ideological objective. Instead, they described the violence as part of a broader campaign to destabilise the country through intimidation and bloodshed.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion. Security forces said they would continue operations in the area to prevent further attacks.
