Pakistan secured two medals at the Asian Games 2026 as the national hockey team recorded its second straight win, while the women’s cricket team won bronze.
In the hockey event, Pakistan defeated Uzbekistan 5-1 in their Pool B match in Aichi-Nagoya.
Sufyan Khan scored two goals for Pakistan. Mohammad Imad, Abdul Rehman and Abu Bakar scored one goal each.
Pakistan dominated the match from the start and kept pressure on Uzbekistan throughout the game.
Pakistan had earlier defeated Thailand 9-0 in their opening match of the hockey event.
The national team scored two goals in the first quarter, three in the second and four in the third quarter. Pakistan did not score in the final quarter.
With two consecutive wins, Pakistan have strengthened their position in Pool B.
Women cricket team defeats Bangladesh
Meanwhile, Pakistan women’s cricket team defeated Bangladesh by 31 runs in the bronze-medal match.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat at Kuroji Sports Park in Japan. The team scored 145-8 in 20 overs.
Captain Fatima Sana led the scoring with 45 off 30 balls. Her innings included three fours and three sixes. Gul Feroza scored 31 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers Nahida Akter, Shorna Akter and Ritu Moni took two wickets each. Sanjida Akter claimed one wicket.
Chasing 146, Bangladesh managed 114-7 in their 20 overs.
Pakistan’s Um Hani was the top bowler with three wickets. Fatima Sana, Tasmiya Rubab, Nashra Sandhu and Ayesha Zafar took one wicket each.
Pakistan had lost to Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the semi-final. The defeat ended their hopes of winning the gold medal.
The bronze medal win, however, gave Pakistan their first medal in the women’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2026.
Sri Lanka and India will face each other in the women’s cricket gold-medal match.
