During the final Test match against the West Indies, Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam and batter Abdullah Shafique produced an outstanding batting performance.
While fans praised the pair, legendary West Indies fast bowler and commentator Ian Bishop also made an interesting remark.After the West Indies were bowled out for 344 in their first innings, Pakistan lost their first two wickets at a score of 98.
Opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 14, while Azan Awais scored 55 before getting out.
Following those early wickets, captain Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique took control of the innings. By the end of the second day’s play, they had added 168 runs for the third wicket. Abdullah Shafique remained unbeaten on 107, having scored the sixth Test century of his career, while Babar Azam was 86 not out.
This was Abdullah Shafique’s first Test century outside the Indian subcontinent.Commenting on the partnership, Ian Bishop praised the batting technique of both players.
During the broadcast, Bishop said that an interesting connection is that Sialkot has produced some of the world’s great poets and writers, including Allama Iqbal, Parveen Shakir, and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. In the same spirit, Babar Azam has given Abdullah Shafique the nickname “Kitabi” (“bookish”).
However, the nickname is not because of any literary interest; rather, it refers to Abdullah’s textbook-perfect batting technique, as though it belongs in a coaching manual.
Bishop’s comment quickly went viral on social media, where fans praised not only the batting of Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique but also Ian Bishop’s knowledge and storytelling during commentary.
