UAE imposes visa ban

Web desk: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ‘imposed’ an immediate ban on the issuance of tourist and work visas for citizens of nine African and Asian countries.

According to media news, citing international media reports, an immigration circular stated that visa applications from these countries will remain suspended until further notice, and no new work or tourist visas will be issued.

The affected countries are Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Cameroon, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Bangladesh.

Although the UAE authorities have not given any official response to the decision yet, it is reported that the restrictions can be explained by security issues.

Most of the nationals of these countries are represented by workers and job seekers in the UAE, and the relocation is likely to impact thousands of individuals.

Diplomatic sources have expressed concern, warning that the impact will be felt not only at an individual level but also in economic terms.

It remains unclear whether the ban is temporary or long-term. Officials in the Emirates said the situation is under review and further instructions will be announced soon.
