ICC bars India captain Suryakumar Yadav from making political remarks
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has restricted Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav from making political remarks after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed an official complaint over his comments during and after the recent high-profile Asia Cup match against Pakistan.
Sources confirmed that Yadav appeared before ICC officials at the council’s headquarters in Dubai on Thursday following the PCB’s formal letter of protest.
The complaint referred to his statements in which he dedicated India’s win to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and to the country’s armed forces.
After reviewing the matter, the ICC issued clear instructions barring Yadav from making political statements in the future, underscoring that “no political statements of any kind will be made on the ground going forward.”
ICC reviewing PCB complaint against India captain Suryakumar Yadav over ‘political’ Asia Cup remarks
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that it is reviewing a complaint filed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against India captain Suryakumar Yadav over remarks he made after his team’s victory against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup on September 14.
According to the ICC, a formal hearing may be launched once the complaint has been fully examined.
After the match, Yadav dedicated India’s win to the families of victims of the ‘Pahalgam incident’ and praised the Indian armed forces, saying they had shown “a lot of bravery.”
He added that he hoped the military would continue to inspire the team and that the players would “give them more reasons to smile.”
The PCB has described Yadav’s comments as “political.” Indian media reported that match referee Richie Richardson has notified Indian officials that he received two separate reports from the PCB concerning the captain’s statements during both the post-match presentation and the press conference.
Earlier, the PCB had confirmed that it would continue participating in the Asia Cup after receiving assurances from the ICC and match referee Andy Pycroft.
Pycroft had also issued a formal apology to Pakistan over the widely discussed handshake controversy that arose during the high-profile clash between the two sides.
