Web Desk: US President Donald Trump while speaking to the Gaza Board of Peace forum said he helped stop a war between India and Pakistan, calling the intervention a life-saving moment between two nuclear-armed nations.

Speaking on recent global conflicts, Trump said tensions between the South Asian rivals had escalated to the brink before outside intervention helped halt the fighting.

Trump said the situation between India and Pakistan had already crossed into open conflict when action was taken to stop it.

“We were very pleased to be able to stop a war that had begun between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed nations,” Trump said.

He added that the consequences could have been catastrophic without timely intervention.

“Very bad things were about to happen,” he said.

Trump said Pakistan’s prime minister credited him with preventing a large-scale humanitarian disaster.

“I was deeply honored when the Prime Minister of Pakistan said that President Trump had saved 10, perhaps even 20 million lives by stopping it just in time,” he said.

Trump did not provide further details on the nature of the intervention or the timeline of events.

Turning to broader international conflicts, Trump said global security conditions had improved compared with a year earlier.

“Today the world is richer, safer and much more peaceful than it was a year ago,” he said.

He also said some conflicts had unfolded without broad public awareness.

“A lot of people, including me, didn’t know that these wars were going on,” Trump added.

In addition, Trump acknowledged international participation in efforts related to Gaza, thanking countries involved in what he described as the Gaza Board of Peace.

When discussing Hamas President Trump vowed that Hamas will be disarmed. Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif also signed the Gaza Board of Peace Accord in Davos after the speech. PM Shehbaz Sharif also held a brief conversation with US President.
