Change in KP Setup Opens New Path to Peace and Better Governance: Shehzad Iqbal

Senior journalist Shehzad Iqbal has said positive developments are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security and governance situation in the coming weeks and months under the new administrative setup.

Speaking about discussions with people in positions of power and decision-making authority, Shehzad Iqbal said no specific timeframe had been given for the new arrangement, as the challenges involve complex security and governance issues. However, he said, progress was expected to become visible every week or month, including a decline in terrorism and improvements in governance.

Shehzad Iqbal identified the departure of the previous provincial government as a major development, saying it had been accused of failing to take action against terrorists and cooperate with the federal government.

He said the new approach would also focus on addressing the nexus between terrorism and crime, drug-related networks, and issues involving non-custom-paid vehicles.

The return of Afghan nationals who had been expelled from other areas, settled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and subsequently moved to other cities was also highlighted as part of the proposed measures.

Shehzad Iqbal further said the mechanisms supporting counterterrorism efforts had been activated, with strengthening the capacity of the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) identified as a fundamental step.

He added that the new approach also aimed to end the glorification of terrorist incidents and ensure that accurate information reached the public.

While no fixed timeframe has been given for the new setup, Shehzad Iqbal expressed expectations of visible progress in counterterrorism and governance in the coming days.
