Web Desk: Six laborers who were abducted from Balochistan’s Kech district were found dead in the Nasirabad area, officials said, in an attack that has raised fresh concerns over the security of workers in the province.
Babar Yousafzai, spokesperson for the Balochistan Home Department, confirmed that the bodies recovered from Turbat belonged to the six missing laborers. He said four of the victims were from Punjab province, while two were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police said seven laborers were abducted by unidentified armed individuals two days earlier from the Kalatak area of Kech district. One of the workers was killed shortly after the abduction, while six others were taken away by the attackers.
According to police officials, the bodies of all six abducted laborers were later recovered from the Nasirabad area of Balochistan.
Authorities shifted the bodies to Teaching Hospital Turbat for postmortem examinations as investigations into the incident continued.
The victims were identified as workers who had traveled to Balochistan for employment opportunities and were involved in development-related activities in the region.
Officials said four of the slain laborers belonged to Punjab, including workers from Lodhran and Bahawalpur, while two others were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swabi and nearby areas.
The killings have caused grief among the victims’ families and communities, with authorities promising further action against those responsible.
Pakistani officials have blamed terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan for the attack, accusing the group of targeting civilians and workers in Balochistan.
The incident occurred in the Kech district, an area that has witnessed repeated security challenges in recent years.
Officials said targeting unarmed laborers not only caused loss of innocent lives but also threatened economic activity and development efforts in the province.
The latest incident adds to concerns over the safety of laborers working on projects across Balochistan, where many workers from other provinces travel in search of employment.
Officials said attacks on workers and civilians create fear among communities and disrupt development initiatives aimed at improving local infrastructure and economic opportunities.
The killings came days after another attack in the Mashkel area of Balochistan, where five laborers from Punjab were also reported killed, according to officials.
Police and security authorities have launched an investigation into the abduction and killings, while efforts are underway to trace those responsible.
Officials said protecting civilians, particularly workers engaged in development projects, remains a priority as authorities continue operations against terrorist threats in the province.
The recovery of the six bodies has intensified calls for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks on laborers and other vulnerable communities in Balochistan.
