Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called a cabinet meeting at 10 am today on the issue of approving the 27th Constitutional Amendment. According to sources, the Prime Minister will chair the federal cabinet meeting via video link from Baku.

As per media reports, the government has accepted the PPP’s proposals regarding the constitutional amendments.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment will be approved in the federal cabinet, the report said.

On the other hand, the opposition has rejected the draft of the 27th Amendment. The opposition parties in the Senate have said in a joint statement after their meeting that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), the PPP, and the allied parties are bulldozing the legislation, and the draft of the constitutional amendment is being hidden from the opposition.

Earlier, while giving a media briefing after the meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto said that the CEC meeting had agreed on three points of constitutional amendment. Bilawal Bhutto said that the PPP will support the amendment to Article 243, constitutional courts should be formed. Other issues of the Charter of Democracy should also be looked at.

Bilawal Bhutto said that under NFC, provincial funds can increase but cannot decrease. The incomplete agenda of the Charter of Democracy should be discussed. We will see if a consensus can be reached on other clauses in the 27th Amendment process.
