A peaceful protest led by Iqra University students at Hayatabad campus on Friday turned violent when a security guard started firing without any apparent reason.
According to reports, students of Iqra University Hayatabad staged a protest over issues related to hostel facilities and university fees, during which private security guards allegedly opened fire.
The incident has sparked concern among students, who are demanding that the provincial government and Peshawar Police take legal action against the university administration.
According to the protesting students, they had gathered to raise concerns over hostel arrangements and fee-related matters when the situation escalated. They alleged that private security personnel resorted to firing during the protest.
The students have called for an impartial investigation into the incident and action against those found responsible.
The development comes shortly after a separate controversy involving students of a nursing college in Hayatabad. In that case, students had alleged that police action was taken against them despite what they described as a peaceful protest.
Authorities, however, presented a different account of the nursing college incident. Following the conflicting claims, the provincial government constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
No detailed official statement from Iqra University management or police regarding the latest incident has yet been issued.
