Police in Swat have arrested three suspects after an objectionable video involving a ninth-grade student circulated on social media, while the management of Al-Madina Model School and College has publicly distanced the institution from the incident, saying it neither occurred on school premises nor during school hours.
According to police, the video came to their attention after it began circulating online. District Police Officer Swat Muhammad Umar Khan directed Saidu Sharif police to take action, after which three suspects, identified in police reporting as Abdullah, Sabir and Muhammad Bilawal, all residents of Akhun Baba were arrested.
Police say the ninth-grade student was allegedly called to a private hujra on the pretext of attending a party. Investigators allege that an objectionable video was recorded there and that the student was later threatened with serious consequences if he disclosed the matter.
Police further said the suspects allegedly threatened to circulate the video. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
School’s version
Al-Madina Model School and College, meanwhile, rejected suggestions that the incident occurred inside the educational institution. During a press conference at the Swat Press Club, representatives of the institution said the video was not recorded on the school premises and did not take place during school hours.
The school administration said the incident allegedly took place in a private hujra located away from the institution during the evening. It maintained that the school itself had no role in the incident.
School representatives who addressed the press conference included the institution’s PRO and focal person Mahmoodul Hassan Khan Ji, Girls Campus Head Salahuddin, Vice Principal Sher Bahadur Khan and other officials.
According to the school administration, the parents of the students linked to the incident were summoned and the students concerned were expelled from the institution. The administration said it took disciplinary action after learning about the matter.
