Web Desk: Two Pakistani civilians were reportedly killed and another injured after Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire near the Pakistan-India international border in the Kasur sector, according to Pakistani security sources.
The incident reportedly involved three local residents from Ladhar village, who, according to the sources, came under fire shortly after moving a few steps beyond a border pillar.
Pakistani security sources said the three men were unarmed and had not attempted to cross the border fence. They alleged that the BSF opened fire without warning.
According to the Pakistani sources, two of the three men died in the firing while the third sustained injuries.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Attaullah, and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar, the sources said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting could not immediately be independently verified.
Pakistani security sources said the men had not crossed the border fence and described the shooting as an unprovoked incident involving civilians.
Indian media reports, meanwhile, cited Indian officials as saying that BSF personnel had opened fire on suspected Pakistani infiltrators near Rajoke in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. Those reports said the individuals were allegedly attempting to enter Indian territory and that warnings had been issued before the firing.
The Indian reports said two suspected Pakistani nationals were killed, while their identities had not initially been established.
Pakistani security sources alleged that the firing violated established border arrangements and standard operating procedures governing activity along the international boundary.
They also disputed descriptions of the three men as infiltrators, saying none of them had attempted to cross the border fence.
Further official statements from Pakistani authorities or the BSF could clarify the circumstances of the incident and the identities of those involved.
