The Pakistan cricket team has reached England for a three-Test series. Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the national team will face England in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, from August 19.
Speaking to media, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif said that during the England tour, the PCB management should adopt a strategy of keeping captain Babar Azam away from the English media.
Rashid Latif, who toured England with the Pakistan cricket team in 1992, 1996 and 2001, said that an England tour is a difficult one, where the English media tries to unnecessarily involve visiting teams in controversies and headlines.
He said that Babar Azam would be under particular scrutiny in this regard.
The former captain said that Babar Azam is an experienced player, and it would be better for the PCB management to keep him away from the English media and send former captain Shan Masood to speak to the English media more often. He said Masood has played in England and has better experience dealing with the English media.
He added that Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Abbas could also be good choices for media interactions.
Champions Cup to boost Pakistan’s World Cup Preparations
Pakistan white-ball team head coach Mike Hesson has arrived in Multan for the National Champions Cup.
Mike Hesson held a meeting with the coaching staff of all four teams. The meeting was attended by the four team head coaches, Misbah-ul-Haq, Ijaz Junior, Iqbal Imam and Aizaz Cheema.
Pakistan bowling coach Ashley Nofke and NCA Head of Coach Education Shahid Aslam also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, discussions were held on improving players’ ODI cricket skills and other matters during the Champions Cup.
The National Champions Cup is the first step in preparations for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
The National Champions Cup will begin on August 11, marking the official start of the 2026-27 domestic cricket season.
