WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new design for the navigation bar at the bottom of its app for Android users, featuring a floating design with rounded edges.
The new design aims to give the app a more modern look and make it easier for users to move between different sections of the app.
The new feature was spotted in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.26.38.10 and is currently in the development stage, so it is available to users enrolled in the beta program rather than general users.
The design of the new navigation bar bears some resemblance to the tab bar available in the iOS version of WhatsApp. Its floating appearance and rounded edges also reflect a similar design approach.
However, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is unlikely to directly replicate the iOS version in the Android app. The company has its own design guidelines for the Android app and may adopt a different approach for transparency and other visual effects.
The new navigation bar is being tested in both light and dark themes, although the change appears more noticeable in the light theme.
WhatsApp may make further changes to the navigation bar design before its public release. The company has not yet confirmed what additional changes will be included in the final version or when the new design will become available to general users.
WhatsApp has recently been making several changes to the interface of its Android app, including new chat themes and more customization options.
