WhatsApp is adding an interesting feature that is somewhat reminiscent of Facebook’s birthday reminders.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a birthday reminder feature has appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS devices.
This means that the world’s most popular messaging platform will now remind you of the birthday of a relative or friend.
The feature will help users track or remember the birthdays of friends and family members within WhatsApp itself, rather than relying on different calendar apps.
According to the report, users will be notified about the birthdays of their saved contacts.
This will give users the opportunity to directly open the chat and wish them a happy birthday.
The report also stated that the new Contacts tab is being introduced in place of the Updates tab on iOS devices.
The birthday reminders feature is being tested within this Contacts tab.
This new tool will use the data provided by users while setting up their WhatsApp accounts.
In simple terms, the birthday reminder feature will only work when the birth date of a person in your contacts is available on WhatsApp.
This means that if your friends have not provided their birthday details on WhatsApp, the birthday reminder will not be available.
When it is a friend or relative’s birthday, WhatsApp will highlight that person in the Contacts tab with a cake emoji and “Birthday” label.
In this way, you will be able to immediately send that person a birthday greeting message.
The report further stated that the feature is still being worked on and is not yet available to everyone even in the beta version. Therefore, it is possible that further changes may be made to the feature when it is officially introduced.
