The process of screening cancer patients for cryoablation has begun at four hospitals.
Rawalpindi: Cancer treatment through a cryoablation machine has been started at Holy Family Hospital.
Fifteen probes for the advanced treatment have arrived at the hospital. Each probe costs Rs1.6 million and will be used to treat only one patient.
The process of screening cancer patients for cryoablation has begun at four hospitals in Rawalpindi.
Patients suffering from liver, lung, breast and kidney cancer will be selected for cryoablation, while patients with cancerous tumors measuring up to 2 centimeters will be eligible for treatment.
Through cryoablation, cancerous tumors will be destroyed by freezing them to minus 180 degrees and burning them with heat of 100 degrees. Cancer treatment through the cryoablation machine will be provided completely free of charge, and patients will not be charged any fees.
Patient cases will be referred from Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital and PKLI. Before cryoablation, patients will also receive consultations from specialist doctors at Noor Hospital Islamabad.
In the first phase, 15 patients will be treated through the cryoablation machine. After the treatment of the 15 patients, additional probes will be provided for more patients.
Patients with cancerous tumors larger than 2 centimeters will not be eligible for cryoablation.
