RAWALPINDI: A strike has been announced by transporters of Punjab on Sunday. The strike is against the amended Transport Ordinance and hefty fines for violation of traffic rules.

Support has been announced for the wheel jam strike of December 8 by transporters of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi; this was revealed by the Transport Union. All the bus stands will remain closed tomorrow, Monday. as stated by The Chairman of the United Transport Association.

It is possible that the strike will continue for an indefinite period. The transporters’ strike will be held across Punjab, as revealed by the union. The problems of transporters should be understood by the government. To impose a fine of 2,000 on a motorcyclist who earns Rs 25,000 is unfair.

Goods transporters have also announced that they will be supporting the strike of the Pakistan United Transporters Action Committee.

On December 8 all terminals would be completely closed and the new fines and laws by the Punjab government are highly condemnable. This was announced by the Transporters’ leaders. An unnecessary burden has been imposed on the transporters. The amendment was termed by leaders as economic murder of transporters. They have demanded that the government immediately withdraw cruel measures.

They added that it is unacceptable when public interest is being ignored in government decisions.
