A major development has emerged for smartphone users, with relief announced for consumers facing difficulties due to the heavy PTA taxes imposed on imported smartphones.
Pakistan Peoples Party Member of the National Assembly Qasim Gilani said on social media platform X that after two years of continuous efforts, consumers have been provided with the facility to pay the PTA tax amount in installments instead of paying it in a lump sum.
According to the statement, smartphone users will now have to pay tax amounts ranging from approximately Rs100,000 to Rs250,000 in monthly installments of Rs8,000 to Rs17,000 instead of paying the entire amount at once, reducing the immediate financial burden on consumers.
Qasim Gilani further said that the purpose of the measure is to facilitate consumers who were facing difficulties due to the lump-sum payment of heavy taxes imposed on imported smartphones. He said efforts would continue to secure further relief and additional incentives for the public.
Relevant circles are describing the development as significant relief for consumers. However, further details regarding the final terms, duration and implementation of the installment facility are yet to emerge.
