Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced that Pakistan is still considering the deployment of troops to Gaza under US President Donald Trump’s peace initiative, which proposes the creation of an international stabilisation force, the private media outlet reported on Tuesday.

“This thing has to be finalised [and] it is in process. The government will take a decision after passing through the process, and I don’t want to preempt it,” he said during an interview on a private TV channel.

However, the defence czar stated that the government will consult all institutions including parliament before final decision on the matter.

The deployment of an international peacekeeping force in Gaza was a president’s plan to maintain the ceasefire, which started this month, stopping a two-year conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Earlier on Monday, Israel confirmed that it wouldn’t accept the presence of Turkish forces in Gaza.
