Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has opened up about her pregnancy at the age of 41, saying her second pregnancy was unexpected and has been very different from her first experience.
Mahira is expecting her second child, 17 years after giving birth to her first son.
The actress recently showed her baby bump publicly for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where she also spoke about her pregnancy.
Speaking in an interview, Mahira said she was 24 when she had her first child. She described herself as more carefree and energetic at that age.
However, she said her current pregnancy feels much more challenging at 41, both physically and emotionally.
Mahira explained that she had initially felt hesitant about making her pregnancy public because she prefers keeping her personal life private.
She eventually decided to embrace the changes in her body instead of hiding them.
The actress said she already has an older son, along with her career, routine and independence. She had imagined what this stage of her life would look like.
She said becoming pregnant again after so many years was not something she had planned as part of her life at this stage.
Mahira said the unexpected pregnancy has also taught her to let go of the need to control and plan everything.
“We make plans and then Allah makes plans,” she said, adding that His plans are always better.
The actress said the experience has taught her that some of life’s most important and beautiful moments can come when people least expect them.
Mahira Khan was previously married to Ali Askari. The couple has a son together.
