Khawaja Asif sparks debate on Bushra Bibi’s influence

ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s recent statements have stirred fresh debate in the country’s political circles, as he claimed that revelations in the British magazine The Economist are accurate and linked former First Lady Bushra Bibi’s role with senior military officials. His comments have once again ignited heated discussions among both government and opposition ranks.

In an exclusive interview with a private TV channel, Khawaja Asif said that the claims mentioned in The Economist report have been seen before, noting that information provided by Bushra Bibi was repeatedly proven accurate within a few days. He alleged that PTI founder Imran Khan was reportedly influenced by Generals Faiz and Bajwa during this period, and that the country’s political landscape was deliberately altered through a coordinated strategy.

The Defense Minister added that economic irregularities in recent years were part of a planned scheme, with severe consequences for national politics and the economy. He also claimed that Supreme Court decisions against Nawaz Sharif were linked to this pattern, alleging that a portion of misappropriated funds went to PTI’s founder while the rest was transferred abroad.

During the conversation, he further stated that the former First Lady’s influence had an extraordinary impact on state decisions, which he considered potentially dangerous for national security. Khawaja Asif alleged that then-ISI Chief General Asim Munir had submitted a comprehensive report to Imran Khan regarding the matter, and was subsequently removed from his post after expressing concerns.

Criticizing PTI leadership, he claimed that they viewed Imran Khan as an exceptional political figure, while in his words, he was “manipulated by a woman.” He added that Khan received a share of embezzled funds, while the rest was allegedly transferred abroad through an individual referred to as Gogi.

The Economist report has intensified the discussion further, referencing Imran Khan’s political strategies, Bushra Bibi’s influence, and certain religious and spiritual practices carried out at Bani Gala. According to the report, unusual rituals, including sacrifices of black goats and chickens, gained attention following the former First Lady’s involvement.

Political analysts say Khawaja Asif’s statements are likely to raise the political temperature in the coming days, potentially leading to renewed clashes between government and opposition narratives on the matter.
