Web Desk: Four people were killed and three others wounded after two groups allegedly opened fire during a dispute over gold mining in Pakistan’s northwestern Kohat district, local sources said.
The shooting took place in Darbo Kach within the jurisdiction of Gambat police station, where tensions had reportedly been building between the groups over mining activity at a site believed to be operating illegally.
The victims included four people who died at the scene or from their injuries, while three others were wounded, including a passerby caught in the crossfire, according to local sources.
Panic spread through the area as gunfire erupted, prompting people nearby to flee. Police arrived soon after receiving information about the incident and cordoned off the site.
The bodies of those killed and the injured were taken to a medical facility. The wounded were receiving treatment, officials said.
Meanwhile, police began collecting evidence from the scene and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the shooting and establish what triggered the confrontation.
According to local sources, the two groups had been involved in a dispute linked to gold mining at the site. However, police have yet to establish the precise cause of the violence or confirm the identities of all those killed and wounded.
Authorities have also started efforts to arrest suspects allegedly involved in the shooting.
Following the incident, security was tightened in the area to prevent further violence as investigators continued to examine the circumstances surrounding the clash.
Police are expected to release additional details about the incident and the identities of the victims as the investigation progresses.
