Web Desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman for breaching the Code of Conduct during the final of the recent tri-nation series against Sri Lanka.

Penalty for On-Field Dissent

The ICC said Zaman was handed a fine equal to 10 percent of his match fee after he violated Article 2.8, which relates to showing excessive dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match. The governing body also issued him one demerit point.

Incident in the Final

The breach occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Zaman appeared visibly upset after being given out and engaged in an extended discussion with the on-field umpires. Match officials deemed his reaction to be in clear violation of the playing regulations.

Pakistan Clinches the Title

Despite the incident, Pakistan went on to win the tri-series, defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final. The ICC stated that Zaman accepted the charge, meaning no formal hearing was required.

Broader Context

The sanction adds to the ICC’s ongoing efforts to curb player dissent and maintain discipline on the field. The demerit point will remain on Zaman’s record for a 24-month period.
