Web Desk: Government has decided to reduce petrol and diesel prices for the fifth consecutive review period, providing fresh relief to consumers amid easing global energy prices.
The government will lower the petrol price by Rs4 per litre and diesel by Rs2 per litre for the next week, according to official sources.
The revised prices will take effect from midnight following the issuance of a notification by the Petroleum Division.
Under the new pricing structure, petrol will cost Rs373.78 per litre, down from Rs377.78 per litre.
Similarly, the government will reduce the price of high-speed diesel to Rs378.78 per litre from the current Rs380.78 per litre.
Officials said the latest adjustment reflects changes in international petroleum markets and domestic pricing calculations.
The latest reduction marks the fifth consecutive decrease in petroleum prices, extending a trend that has provided gradual relief to motorists and transport operators.
Earlier estimates had indicated a possible reduction of up to Rs4 per litre in petrol prices and Rs2 per litre in diesel rates for the upcoming review period.
The government subsequently approved the cuts following a review of market conditions.
Although the reduction remains modest, it is expected to ease transportation and fuel expenses for households and businesses.
Fuel prices play a significant role in determining transportation costs and overall inflation, making even small adjustments important for consumers.
The Petroleum Division is expected to issue a formal notification confirming the revised rates and implementation details.
