Journalist Hassan Ayub has cast doubt on the authenticity of the jewellery worn by Mahnoor Safdar, daughter of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, amid social media claims that the set is worth $42 million.
In his vlog, Ayub noted that Maryam Nawaz’s dresses, jewellery, watches and handbags often become subjects of discussion during family occasions. This time, however, public attention shifted to Mahnoor Safdar’s diamond set, which reportedly features a large yellow gemstone in the centre.
Social media users later circulated an image of a similar jewellery set, identifying it as a designer creation by “Moowa” and claiming its value was $42 million, or around Rs11.65 billion.
Ayub said a comparison between the original designer piece and the set worn by Mahnoor revealed noticeable differences. He explained that the branded necklace has two diamond rows, whereas Mahnoor’s jewellery appears to contain only one.
He also highlighted variations in the necklace’s structure, central stone and flower-like outer detailing, saying these differences indicate that Mahnoor’s set may be a replica rather than the original branded design.
The journalist maintained that the reported price of the original piece cannot be applied to a replica. He also suggested that the jewellery could contain lab-grown diamonds, zircon or other precious stones.
Ayub added that it has not been established whether the set was gifted to Mahnoor by Maryam Nawaz, Captain Safdar or her in-laws.
