Islamabad: The Foreign Office on Thursday has rejected media reports that a Pakistani had been arrested in the United States (US) The FO said that the circulating news is baseless and misleading. The arrested man is an Afghan National.

In a statement, the FO spokesperson said that the man, Luqman Khan, arrested in the US, is not Pakistani, but he holds the Afghan Nationality and clarified that Luqman Khan holds dual nationality of the United States and of Afghanistan, and therefore any link with Pakistan is entirely incorrect.

The FO office urged the media to verify all the information before releasing it, as unconfirmed news can cause unnecessary confusion. The spokesperson stated that the media should avoid airing any news without proper verification.

FO spokesperson Tahir Andarabi further added that for most of his life, Luqman Khan had spent in the United States and a significant time in Afghanistan.

According to the US authorities, the Afghan-origin suspect was arrested on 24 November in Delaware, where police recovered weapons and ammunition from his residence and vehicle. Luqman Khan is allegedly accused of planning an attack against the United States.

The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan has no connection whatsoever with the individual or the case.
