The crisis started early Sunday morning. A significant power breakdown hit the Dhabeji Pumping Station. KWSC is working hard on repairs. They expect the system to normalize by Monday.
The Damage to Supply
The breakdown happened at 6:35 AM. It occurred in the second phase of the Dhabeji facility. This station is vital to the city. The sudden power loss immediately disrupted operations. It affected the 72-inch Line No. 5. Four pumps were forced to shut down. This caused what the utility calls severe damage. It crippled the water supply system.
The Dhabeji pumping station feeds many major areas. Previous disruptions have hurt East and Central districts. Localities like Nazimabad felt the impact. New Karachi, Landhi, and Korangi were also hit. Officials expect similar supply problems this time. The shortage will last until full restoration is complete.
Emergency Response and Restoration
Help arrived quickly. Power was restored to two pumps by 9 AM. This allowed a partial supply to resume. Technical teams are still working hard. They are making emergency repairs on the affected pipeline. The remaining two pumps will come online after this work finishes.
KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui gave clear orders. He directed teams to work continuously. They must restore the system as fast as possible. Technical crews are using all resources available. They are working on an emergency basis.
The utility is giving assurances to residents. They expect the Dhabeji Pumping Station to be fully operational on Monday. Efforts are focused on minimizing the shortfall.
