Web Desk: Motorway police have issued a stern warning to travelers as dense fog has severely reduced visibility across several regions of the country, making travel on motorways increasingly dangerous. As a result, key stretches of the motorway network have been temporarily shut down. The M3 motorway from Dera Khana to Rajana, M4 from Gojra to Multan and M5 from Multan to Zahid Peer have all been closed to traffic until further notice.
Travelers Urged to Avoid Non-Essential Journeys
Saying that the visibility was drastically limited due to the thick fog, motorway police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. He highlighted that the risk of accidents was significantly higher due to the reduced line of sight, making even routine driving hazardous. Authorities have emphasized that excessive speed and lane violations could lead to serious accidents during these weather conditions.
Safety Tips for Drivers During Foggy Conditions
The motorway police have advised drivers to strictly adhere to lane discipline and refrain from overtaking other vehicles. Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and reducing speed were identified as key actions that could substantially lower the likelihood of accidents.
“The period between 10 AM and 6 PM is considered relatively safer for travel during foggy conditions,” added Imran Ahmed. “If travel is necessary, it is advised to plan trips during these hours.”
Additionally, the police have recommended that drivers use fog lights effectively to improve visibility and reduce the risk of collisions. They also stressed the importance of ensuring that vehicle headlights and fog lights are in good working condition.
Motorway Police Pledge Immediate Action Upon Weather Improvement
Motorway police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety, reassuring citizens that motorways will be reopened gradually as soon as weather conditions improve. The closures are particularly significant for students and parents traveling to and from educational institutions in areas like Murree and Kotli Sattiyan, as winter holidays often see an uptick in motorway traffic.
Public Safety Remains a Top Priority
In their final advisory, the police urged all travelers to exercise caution, maintain reduced speeds, and avoid any hasty overtaking maneuvers. Citizens were also reminded to contact the motorway police help desk at 130 for immediate assistance in case of emergencies.
As Pakistan braces for further foggy conditions, the safety of commuters continues to be the motorway police’s top priority, and they are hopeful that traffic will return to normal soon as visibility improves.
