An important change has been made in the police of the federal capital and the cybercrime investigation system, with Sohail Chaudhry appointed as the new Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, while the incumbent IG, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has been transferred from his post and appointed as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
According to sources, Sohail Chaudhry is a BS-20 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). He has previously served in various important positions in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan, and has also held key responsibilities in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab.
His previous positions include Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, City Police Officer (CPO) Faisalabad, DIG Operations Lahore, DIG CTD Punjab and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan.
Sohail Chaudhry took charge as DIG Operations Lahore in 2021 following the Minar-e-Pakistan harassment case, after which his profile also attracted attention at the national level. He later served as DIG CTD Punjab; however, he was subsequently transferred out of the province and appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
Meanwhile, Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was serving as the IG of Islamabad Police, will now assume the responsibilities of Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
Sohail Chaudhry’s appointment as head of Islamabad Police comes at a time when the capital’s police force is undergoing efforts to introduce modern systems. These measures include an artificial intelligence (AI)-equipped command and control system aimed at making real-time monitoring and response mechanisms more effective.
