Faisalabad: In the much awaited Pak vs SA match being played at Faisalabad today, Pakistan made early inroads into South Africa’s batting lineup in the first One-Day International (ODI) at the Iqbal Stadium on Monday, as young pacer Naseem Shah and spinner Saim Ayub struck crucial blows to put the visitors under pressure.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that paid off when Saim Ayub dismissed two key South African batters Lhuan-dre Pretorius for 18 and Tony de Zorzi for 57. Naseem Shah added to the momentum by removing wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, who scored a brisk 63. Shaheen Afridi Leads in First ODI as Captain


The match marks a new chapter for Pakistan as Shaheen Shah Afridi captains the national ODI side for the first time. Speaking before the toss, Afridi said the players were confident and motivated following their strong performance in the T20 series. Pakistan’s playing XI includes Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Hussain Talat, Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed, Naseem Shah and captain Shaheen Afridi.

Faisalabad Hosts International Cricket After 17 Years


The encounter also celebrates the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years. Over 16,000 fans filled the historic Iqbal Stadium, which last hosted an international match in 2008. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ensured special arrangements for fans eager to witness the return of top-level cricket to the city.

Following the South Africa series, Pakistan will host Sri Lanka for three ODIs in Rawalpindi on November 11, 13, and 15. Ticket sales for the series began Tuesday, with prices ranging from Rs. 200 for general enclosures to Rs. 600 for VIP stands, available online through the PCB website.

As the action unfolds in Faisalabad, Pakistan look determined to maintain their strong home record, while South Africa aim to rebuild their innings and regain control of the match.
