Former pilot is undergoing mandatory training for flights between Goa and Hyderabad
Indian Air Force’s former pilot Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured in Pakistan during tensions between Pakistan and India in 2019, is now beginning a new chapter in the commercial aviation sector.
According to reports, Abhinandan has joined regional airline Fly91 as a commercial pilot and is currently undergoing the required training.
It has been reported that, as part of the training programme, he is completing mandatory training related to flights between Goa and Hyderabad.
According to information attributed to the airline, after completing the required training and obtaining regulatory approval, Abhinandan Varthaman may operate commercial flights of Fly91’s ATR aircraft.
It may be recalled that Abhinandan came into the global spotlight during the Pakistan-India aerial clash in 2019, when his fighter aircraft was shot down by the Pakistan Air Force over Pakistani airspace and he was captured.
It is a
worth noting fact that after his jet crash in Pakistan had caused him a great setback. In a face saving and embarrassing act India presented him as a hero to provide a cover to the vulnerability of IAF but inside he was scrutinsed, with his sills being questioned.
He was later handed over to India by Pakistan as a goodwill gesture.
