new spell of rain

Web Desk: A new spell of rain swept across parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing a welcome drop in temperatures and ending days of hot and dry weather, while meteorologists forecast more showers throughout the day.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds affected several cities in Punjab, significantly lowering temperatures and improving weather conditions across the province.

In Lahore and surrounding districts, gusty winds and rainfall provided relief from the heat. Meanwhile, dark clouds and persistent rain in Sialkot turned daytime conditions unusually gloomy, creating near-nighttime visibility in some areas.

Gujrat and nearby localities also received rain coupled with strong winds. However, the weather system disrupted electricity supply after multiple power feeders tripped, leaving several neighborhoods without power.

Intermittent rainfall was also reported in Pindi Bhattian, Khanqah Dogran, Gujar Khan, Mianwali and Zafarwal. Thunderstorms accompanied the showers in several areas, further enhancing the cooler weather conditions.

Meanwhile, strong thunderstorms moved across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing rain, gusty winds and hail in some districts.

In Mardan and adjoining areas, rain and hailstorms began after strong winds swept through the region. Similar conditions were reported in Swabi, where heavy rainfall and hail followed intense windstorms, providing significant relief from the heat.

The severe weather also affected power infrastructure, with several electricity feeders tripping during the storm, causing temporary disruptions to power supply in some areas.

In Fateh Jang and surrounding localities, residents experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning as the weather system expanded across northern regions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the current spell of rain and windstorms will continue across parts of Punjab, including Lahore, through June 20.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued an alert regarding expected rain and gusty winds across the province, urging relevant departments to remain prepared for possible weather-related disruptions.

Officials said the latest weather system is expected to maintain relatively cooler temperatures over the coming days, offering relief to residents after an extended period of intense heat and dry conditions.
