The Saudi Riyal (SAR) traded at Rs74.84 against the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) in the open market today, the same as yesterday, currency dealers said. The rate stayed well below the July 28 peak of Rs76.03. The selling rate also remained unchanged at Rs75.41.
This stability comes as steady remittance inflows and calm market conditions continue to support the currency. The Saudi Riyal remains one of Pakistan’s most vital financial lifelines.
For millions of families across Pakistan, the Riyal means more than just money — it pays for food, rent, medicine, school fees, and daily survival. Pakistani workers in Saudi Arabia, employed in construction, healthcare, and hospitality, continue to send billions home every month. In May 2025 alone, they sent $913.3 million, making Saudi Arabia the largest source of remittances. From July 2024 to May 2025, remittances reached $34.9 billion — a 28.8% increase from last year. At today’s rate, 1,000 Riyals still equal Rs74,840, offering families a stable financial cushion.
A stable Riyal also helps importers of Saudi oil and chemicals by keeping their costs predictable. It eases pressure on Pakistan’s trade balance and supports foreign exchange reserves, which crossed $11 billion by October 2024. These inflows help Pakistan control inflation and pay external debt. Meanwhile, a slightly weaker Rupee keeps exports like textiles, rice, and leather competitive in global markets.
Currency Overview
The Saudi Riyal (SAR) is divided into 100 halala and is firmly pegged to the US dollar, making it highly stable. The Pakistani Rupee (PKR), symbol ₨, is managed by the State Bank of Pakistan under a controlled floating exchange system, which reacts to inflation, remittances, and trade data.
Outlook: SAR to PKR
With the Riyal holding firm at Rs74.84, market conditions remain calm and confident. Even small daily changes matter for household budgets and business planning. As long as overseas Pakistanis continue sending money home, the Saudi Riyal will remain a strong pillar of Pakistan’s financial stability.
