Important instructions have been issued for users amid the risk of Facebook and Instagram account hacking.
According to the private TV channel, new and dangerous tactics are being used by hackers to target social media users.
Experts and security agencies have warned that a single click on the wrong link could result in a Facebook or Instagram account being hacked. This could not only lead to the theft of personal data but also expose friends and family members to fraud.
Hackers create fake websites and pages that look exactly like genuine ones, tricking users into entering their usernames and passwords.
Suspicious links and messages designed to attract users or create panic are sent through WhatsApp, Messenger and other applications. Once an account is hacked, criminals use it to defraud victims’ loved ones by requesting financial assistance or claiming there is an emergency.
Citizens have been instructed to take the following measures to protect their social media accounts.
Users should always choose strong passwords that are difficult to guess. They should also ensure that two-factor authentication is enabled on their Facebook and Instagram accounts to prevent unauthorised login attempts.
In addition, users should avoid clicking on or logging in through any unknown, unverified or suspicious links. They should never share their one-time passwords (OTPs) or verification codes with anyone.
