Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Rs1.45 billion Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present.
Under the project, a three-lane underpass will be built at Kashmir Chowk, one of Islamabad’s busiest intersections. The project is expected to be completed in a record period of one month.
During a briefing, officials said the project will cost Rs1.4548 billion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the project is aimed at improving travel facilities and enhancing the beauty of Islamabad.
He said the government plans to make Islamabad plastic-free and cashless by December 31. He added that more steps would also be taken to make the capital greener and improve its infrastructure.
Naqvi said improving Islamabad’s infrastructure is an important need of the time and urged the public to closely observe the performance of their elected representatives and how they use their time.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Mohsin Naqvi and his team for their commitment to completing the project within one month.
He said roads, bridges and underpasses are built to save people’s valuable time and improve daily travel.
The prime minister also said Pakistan had achieved economic stability through collective efforts and teamwork.
