Portugal’s globally renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has set an important condition for his return to the national team.
According to Portuguese media reports, 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo does not want to represent Portugal as long as current head coach Jorge Jesus remains in charge.
It may be recalled that Cristiano Ronaldo left the national team camp last week following disagreements with the coach.
He was not brought on as a substitute during the match against Norway, while a decision was made to keep him on the bench again for the match against Denmark.
Following the incident, Cristiano Ronaldo left the national team camp and returned to Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has kept the door open for Ronaldo’s return to the team, saying that if he wishes, he can be part of the next international call-up and that the two can also have a discussion.
Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proença has also described the situation between Ronaldo and the coach as a “misunderstanding.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer and most-capped player.
He made his Portugal debut in 2003 and recently said that the current year could potentially be the final year of his football career.
