Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has reportedly been taken into custody in Islamabad, according to the spokesperson for the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP).
TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai said Raja was detained within the jurisdiction of Nilore Police Station while he was travelling to Kotli Sattian to attend a funeral of fellow PTI leader Ijaz Satti. Yousafzai is the officially designated spokesperson of the opposition alliance.
Shaukat Basra, another PTI leader in his tweet said several other party activists along with Salman Akram Raja have been detained.
“Along with Salman Akram Raja, our ticket holders and party office-bearers were also travelling to Kotli Sattian to attend the funeral of the late Ejaz Satti. They too have been illegally detained at Nilore Police Station”, he tweeted.

There was no immediate public confirmation from Islamabad Police of Raja’s detention, the reason for the reported arrest, or whether any case had been registered against him at the time of publication.
Separately, Islamabad Police said on Thursday that it had increased deployments and operational preparedness across the federal capital because of an anticipated law-and-order situation. The capital’s police chief directed personnel to remain alert and maintain security across the city.
Further details about where Salman Akram Raja has been taken, the legal grounds for his reported detention, and whether he will be formally arrested or released are awaited from Islamabad Police.
