ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met Pakistan’s Under-19 (U-19)cricket team after their historic victory in the Under-19 Asia Cup against India.
On this occasion he announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million (one crore rupees) for each player.
The Prime Minister hosted a luncheon to honour the young cricketers and praised them for their excellent performance especially their big win against India.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and federal ministers were also present at the event.
After the meeting, head coach Shahid Anwar said the team’s selection process started on June 17, 2025. Trials were held for 70 young players out of which 30 were selected for a training camp. He said the team’s goal before the Asia Cup was clear to win the trophy and make the nation proud.
Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed said the Prime Minister appreciated the hard work of the players and coaching staff and announced one crore rupees for each player. He added that the Prime Minister encouraged the team and hoped they would win more trophies in the future.
Sarfaraz also praised Sameer Ahmed for his brilliant innings and said Usman Khan played an important role by supporting him.
Team captain Farhan Yousaf said the management supported the players at every step. He said all players played their part in winning the Asia Cup and were told to play their natural game without pressure.
It is important to mention that Pakistan’s Under-19 team defeated India by 191 runs in the Asia Cup final. The team returned home late Sunday night where they received a warm and joyful welcome.
Earlier, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had also announced Rs 5 million (50 lakh rupees) for each player. He assured the team that the PCB would provide full support including medical facilities so the young players can perform their best and continue to bring pride to Pakistan.
